Las Vegas comedy shows fit the national mood because fall is turning into the season of quick trips and live-event bragging rights. Airbnb says 60 percent of travelers are planning short fall trips this year, and nearly 70 percent of surveyed travelers like the idea of visiting famous venues as destinations. Vegas heard that and immediately started adjusting its sunglasses.
Locally, September is doing the usual Vegas thing where one calendar somehow contains five calendars. The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority’s September news brief highlights a major run of live entertainment, Mexican Independence Weekend shows, Sphere dates, and Strip residencies. In other words, the city is not asking if you want to go out. It is asking which door you are walking through.
Vegas is better when the night has a room
Vegas can make “let’s keep it simple” sound adorable. You try to make one plan and suddenly somebody is pointing at a casino sign like it contains prophecy. Comedy helps because it gives the night a seat, a start time, and a room where the loudest person is supposed to be loud.
This batch has Encore polish, Cosmopolitan bite, Wiseguys room energy, Brad Garrett’s classic club feel, and late-night Strip comedy for the friend who swears they are “just seeing where the night goes.” Great. Let it go somewhere with a stage first.
