About Gwen La Roka
Gwen La Rŏka (pronounced rok-uh) is one of Chicago’s most exciting and dynamic stand-up comedians. Since bursting onto the comedy scene in 2009, she has built a reputation as a high-energy, culturally rich performer whose comedy blends personal storytelling, social commentary, and sharp wit. She is the first Latina from Chicago to make her comedy special debut on HBO Max, appearing in Entre Nos: The Winners 3 — a milestone that has brought her national recognition and a rapidly growing fanbase.
Gwen’s comedy draws from her experiences growing up in a Latin household in Chicago, her identity as a queer Latina woman, and her deep commitment to social justice and community activism. Her improv training at Second City Theatre and her background in theater give her performances a unique energy and versatility that sets her apart from the crowd.
